HOLOCENE:
A THEATRICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERT
SOUNDING A DRAMATIC ENVIRONMENTAL ALARM
HOLOCENE:
A THEATRICAL CONCERT EXPERIENCE
Sound the Alarm is proud to initiate this project creation as envisioned by our Artistic Director, Alan Corbishley and scheduled for its world premiere in 2028.
We are honoured to be in collaboration with the following esteemed and truly celebrated international artistic team
Shhh Ensemble
Piano & Percussion Duo
Based in Ottawa, percussionist Zac Pulak and pianist Edana Higham are the two members of SHHH!! Ensemble, a duo carving a space for themselves as electrifying performers of new music. With a keen ear for experimentation and exploration, SHHH!! has been deemed “truly virtuosic and intense” by Toronto’s Confluence Concerts and called “a beautiful discovery” following their debut with the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec.
Formed in 2017, SHHH!! Ensemble began developing their signature “avant-accessible” style and has since developed innovative repertoire for their ensemble by commissioning new works - including Frank Horvat's "An Auditory Survey of the Last Days of the Holocene" which debuted as a Shhh recording, and is the musical work at the core of this concert production.
L'immediat
Theatre Troupe
Based in France, L'immediat and its founder Camille Boitel, is a theatre troupe that creates highly technical, multidisciplinary performances that blend circus, dance, theatre, and cinema, often featuring intricate sets and elaborate machinery. Their work is known for exploring themes of reality, perception, and the absurd through a unique, often tragicomic lens, resulting in sophisticated shows that are not intended for children, though they can be enjoyed by families.
L'immediat never begins, never ends; it is everywhere at once, always out of step, polymorphic and instantaneous, elusive and monstrous. 'The immediate' is the name (almost immediately erased) of our troupe, and of our artistic adventure.
The imm… mm… always said too late to truly say it, as if always doomed from the start.
We equipped ourselves for a shipwreck, we worked to fail, slowly, meticulously, conscious (sometimes suddenly) of playing at the impossible.
The figures in these various shattered pieces—a calamitous cabaret, a gambling machine, an inconsolable spectacle, a lecture on jubilation…—are all at once tragic and cruelly comic, abandoned to a vertiginous world of accidents, abruptness, and failures.
Here we attempt to paint a tender portrait of our shattered lives, our ruined humanity, our incurable fragility.
The company creates works of all kinds, primarily works of living art, unfolding in real time with real elements and real elements with fake ones.
But it has also recently ventured into film, art installations, and all sorts of works that break free from conventional formats.
Mixing everything together, weaving, welding, writing everything, teeming, overflowing, failing, unable to stop itself.
They have been featured at festivals around the globe and are celebrated for their daring and innovative approach to 'immediate' performance.
